Visit statistics

The site uses Google Analytics to see which pages are read and how visitors arrive. When a page loads, your browser sends Google the page address, the page you came from, your browser, device and screen size, and your IP address, which Google uses to estimate an approximate location. Depending on its settings, Analytics also records scrolling, clicks on links to other sites and file downloads.

Analytics sets two cookies on this site, _ga and one starting with _ga_, so it can recognize return visits from the same browser. They last up to two years. We see summary reports; Google handles the data as described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

To opt out, block or clear this site's cookies, use a content blocker, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Appearance and comparison lookup

If you change the light or dark appearance, the site saves that preference in your browser's local storage. Clear this site's stored data in your browser to remove the preference.

The comparison lookup uses a list of published pages in your browser and opens the page you choose. It does not keep a search history; opening a comparison is an ordinary page visit.

Your bag-comparison notes

The two-bag worksheet saves a draft in this browser's local storage when scripts and browser storage are available. The draft contains only the names and label details you enter. It stays on this device; the site does not send your notes to a server.

Use “Clear notes” in the worksheet, or clear this site's stored data in your browser, to remove the draft. Without browser storage, you can keep notes on the open page and print them.

Hosting

Cloudflare hosts the site. To deliver each page, Cloudflare receives the details every browser request carries, such as your IP address and browser type, and handles them under the Cloudflare privacy policy. The site adds no request logging of its own.

Advertising

The site shows no ads. If advertising is added, it will use marked positions on comparison pages below the drawing and outside the answer, context and limits.

Before activation, this notice will describe the advertising providers, their use of cookies and your opt-out choices.

Do Not Track

The site does not change how it works in response to a browser's Do Not Track signal. Through its analytics service, Google may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites, as described above.

Children

Soil Versus is written for adult home gardeners and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Links and email

Source and license links take you to other websites with their own privacy practices. An email link opens your email application; sending a message shares its contents and your email address with the recipient and the services handling delivery.
